Costs
Upgrades are accompanied by some associated costs. The first is the cost for the upgrade. Another method to increase the odds of a successful upgrade is to use an item called a Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version of it. This item is useful when you own an item or weapon equipment that is at the highest level for its tier, or is close to it. This item will allow you upgrade the equipment to the next tier without risking its breaking.
If an upgrade is unsuccessful it will be returned to its initial state. This is typically an error, but it can also be an upgrade. It is recommended to save an upgrade for when you are close to the highest level of an item, and then use it as an option last resort.
There are several items in the Kafra shop that can be used to boost the likelihood of a successful upgrade. You can increase your chances of success by upgrading equipment repeatedly using HD Oridecon and HD Elunium. Failure Rate
