World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also increase bonuses, such as PvE damage and crit chance.

If the weapon's upgrade template is %, it will increase an additional 3% of the previous damage for each time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with the Best item upgrade's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be put into armor, weapons and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before a component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other modifications, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are type of upgrade component used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

A suffix or prefix can be added to an upgrade, thereby changing the name of the item it's applied to (for instance, 'Canthan Armor Insignia',' changes to Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost the Mark Level or Rarity, which allows players to create stronger versions of the equipment using fewer Upgrade Crystals than are required to reach the same level of upgrade using normal methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the defense or attack properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene, and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. These upgrades are available for purchase them in the cash shop, or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other gear.

Each upgrade increases the chance that a better-quality version of the item will be dropped in the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to keep improving their equipment even if they're not sure of the extent to which it will improve following a subsequent reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process can be costly and there is a substantial chance that the item could become obsolete or even break when it fails; a failure to upgrade can ruin Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to minimize or eliminate the possibility of failure. Some upgrades also offer the player a bonus if they are reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade parts that can be inserted into special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs increase the power of all nodes within a radius around them as well as existing affixes on equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in a variety of ways. We recommend upgrading them as fast as you can to level 15.

You'll often see in the final game that placing Glyphs is the most effective way to upgrade your gear. These are the only upgrade components that can be upgraded up to level 15 and offer significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.

Most of the upgrades in the game can be replaced, however Glyphs are the one upgrade component that can be removed and replaced without any restrictions. Only legendary equipment can be salvaged and replaced by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it from your inventory. You can replace it with another Glyph that is the same or higher rank to boost the value of the Glyph.

You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of the Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain tools for gathering unlimited use and also through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt has the chance of dropping one of the many Glyphs, and there are some rare glyphs to be found in the form of drops from any of the four Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs then you have to attach them to your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a special bonus which will boost a specific set of stat nodes within a radius around the Glyph. Depending on the Glyph, this will either be +40 to one of your primary stats or +25 to two of your secondary stats.

The use of a Glyph will boost all the nodes that are linked to it, so it is recommended to position your Glyphs near the most important nodes of the Graph to maximize the impact. For example, a Druid should try to position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes, however, you may also want to consider placing them near critical damage nodes too.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to improve the effectiveness of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is commonly known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has an amount that determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded up to a maximum of 385. Each item upgrader kit level requires a different number of components to be reached and the cost of upgrading increase as the item gets upgraded.

Certain upgrades require a specific ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or found on the upgrade tab in crafting tables. Each Upgrade Recipe completed results in a certain amount of Technology points. These points can be used to level the item, and when enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.

When an individual player upgrades a piece of equipment, the base item will be replaced by the new item. The same armor can be transformed into an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item comes with its own bonus. This could be a problem because it can make the item more expensive, even if you don't require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough reroll tokens in order to do so. This will cause the item to be traded for a new one, with an initial level and a completely different set of bonus bonuses. This is useful for certain items, however it shouldn't be done regularly, as it could waste a lot of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled many times, increasing their value and giving players the ability to alter their equipment. A good example of this is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an advantage when a player repeatedly enters and leaves the water (or is able to swim like a dolphin). This can be upgraded several times, each time raising the max roll by an increment of 10. This item is extremely useful in PvP. A perfectly rolled version could be worth 50 times the value of a non-upgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to upgrade the level of their available equipment - weapons, armor, and trinkets over ilvl 385 by offering the appropriate currency and items to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrades to armor set pieces also improve the strength of their base defense and upgrades to weapon items increase the damage they deal as well as the required strength and dexterity.

All items can be upgraded a maximum of five times, with the exception of hero gear that can have eight upgrades. Each when you upgrade an item it is given an opportunity to fail. The failure rate increases the more you exceed the maximum number of upgrades. Failures will cause the item to go to its original state, which will force the user to spend more money on materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the maximum number of upgrades.

If an item fails to upgrade, the amount of accumulated experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it earned like crit chance attack damage, other effects (such as an increase in healing over time or reloading speed). However, the player can continue to use the weapon or armor following the failure.

When an item is upgraded the upgrades are applied from lowest to the highest. This means that the weapon that is upgraded increases its crit chance it will be applied before any damage from attacks increases. A new attribute called Slots has been added to the definition of the item and the value is recomputed each time an upgrade is made.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item are determined by its rarity rating and upgrade slot count. The cost of upgrading non-premium equipment is equivalent to the value of the base item. For instance an item of common use could have five upgrades at a cost. 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero quality items will have an incredibly lower cost for each upgrade item.

Premium items could require different upgrades than standard gear. For example, they may need less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons. The player will need to carry every piece of equipment they want to upgrade to NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine. In addition to the upgrade costs mentioned above, each equipment upgrade requires a different amount of the upgrade ingredients.
