WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item upgrader mod will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to upgrade weapons and tools, armor and other items. They are purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool using the help of button, which will display an image of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item and the current Best item upgrader level. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currencies.

Many locations offer Item level Upgrade upgraders in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via a variety of means, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with some new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade item to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will cost less, even when they belong to another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones needed for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players have reached certain milestones in their achievement.

Crests

When it comes to upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to equipment that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can then be exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one usage therefore it's essential to use them properly. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with top-quality gear.
