The Best Robot Hoover

The best automatic vacuum robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention. It will leave your floors spotless. Its affordable price and high-end features (such as a dirt detector) are positives.

Check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Some models will automatically empty their dust bin on board into a larger bin at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They have top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice), they use smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a good robot vacuum value particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and operates when you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have self-emptying docks, however. If you want to change the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a compact, sleek package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to remove and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various flooring types including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot autonomous vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the competition. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and look better. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some extra cost it's a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For larger houses it's worth looking for one with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum cleaner reviews vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than the price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
